So far this year, we have studied the beliefs and rituals of Hinduism, Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.
Chase C., Nate and Sissie are studying Taoism. This past week, they've started teaching me about its founder (Lao-Tzu), its sacred text (the Tao Te Ching), and the related practice of Tai Chi.
- Did the Tao exist before the Big Bang, before anything else was created? Or did the Tao actually create the universe?
- Was Lao Tzu always slow and in touch with nature? What if he forgot he had something important to do ... then would he rush to get it done? For example, if Lao Tzu forgot to do his homework and only had a little time left, would he still do it slowly and stay in touch with nature?
- Many people around the world have been sick with Covid. Does that mean the Tao has gotten out of balance?
Morgan, Ansel and Nate are also studying Taoism. This highly creative threesome is incorporating visual artistry, natural elements, and engineering skills into their construction of a Taoist temple. These temples are designed to blend into the shapes and forms of nature, and they are meant to help a person comprehend (and attain) wu wei.
In their collaborative effort, Morgan, Ansel and Nate are also demonstrating the way in which a team of people -- working together, sharing ideas, listening carefully -- can accomplish even more than several individuals working alone.
